Dear friends!! Well, this month of February, the mission is doing something called, the Faith of February brings the Miracles of March, Where we each make a personal sacrifice. I believe that if we want to see miracles, we need to sacrifice something that will be a little hard, so we can show the Lord that we DO want to see miracles. Where there is sacrifice, there are blessings. And...one of my personal sacrifices is to not read my friends emails...nor write you guys until this personal sacrifice ends. Just through this weekly mass email. If you want, you can keep writing me so i have something to read in April... or until this sacrifice ends. At the end of the sacrifice, I'm stoked to respond to you guys, but until then, this will be our means of communication. :) Thank you and I love you!
Well, this week has been really cool!! (when have we not had a cool week in the Lord's work?) We have found a lot more new people to teach! We have been going to our appointments, but something happens and the people aren't there, so we say a prayer and talk to the first person we see and turns out that person is much more interested than the person that we were originally visiting! :) Douglas, for example, is one of those people! We had an appointment with a guy named Victor who is from Guayaquil and apparently received all the lessons and was stoked to get baptized, but he moved to Quito and didn't get baptized, and now we found him and are going to teach him. We were walking to his house when we realized... we didn't know where he lived. ha ha So we just went to where he told us and walked down some stairs and started asking his neighbors. By doing so, we found a new family, Victor's house, (but he wasn't home) , and his neighbor Douglas!! Victor wasn't home, so we said a prayer and Douglas... came out of like the bushes or something ha ha and we asked him and started talking to him and turns out he just moved here from Guayaquil too. He's been having a really hard time with some tough tests in his life and has been looking to go to a church. He even cried to us and said that he was so happy and grateful!! Wut? We are all so excited to teach him :)
We also found Beatriz! We needed to make a phone call and went to her phones. As I made some calls, Hermana Colque contacted her and turns out she's very interested too :) ya ye! We have had a fun time teaching her and having the members that don't usually accompany us, accompany us with her :) It's great because the members also get strengthened :) AND, she gave us a referral of a family from Esmeraldas (the coast) and they're awesome! Super interested too! We just have been praying with a lot of faith and knowing that we are going to find prepared people and we are finding them :)
The recent converts of this sector, familia Aguayo, had stopped coming to church because of all these problems that started happening. The sister said that she thought it was because she joined the church, but soon realized that leaving the church was the dumbest decision. ha ha I loved it. And so now they're receiving us and really excited to come back! :D We had a wonderful lesson with them yesterday and they presented us to some family. They are also new investigators, but they're a little.... well youth, so it's a little tough, but we're working with them :)
And lastly, Carolina. We needed copies of some paper and we went to a member who usually does us the favor, but her copy machine broke...so we were forced to find another one. ha ha so we started walking and found one. We made like 30 copies... just sitting there waiting. not talking to the girl making the copies because she seemed a little serious and her back was to us, but then she gave us the copies and we presented ourselves. She still seemed a little serious and uninterested, but we told her that we would love to come back! and she was like .. yeah OK. whatever. Then before leaving we were like "wait, one last question,. if Jesus was in front of you and you could ask any question, what would you ask!?" and then she was like.... hmm.. about.. anything? And we were like yeah! And she looked down and then started crying and told us that her daughter just passed away and she wants to know why and if she will see her again. Then duh, we all started to tear up and told her about the plan of salvation and she got really happy. :) We left her with a prayer and she genuinely thanked us. That was awesome. We are going to see her tomorrow.
Needless to say, we have been having cool experiences all up and down this sector. ha ha and like last Monday. after writing, my companion forgot her camera in the cyber. right after she was saying "whatta bummer that that sister lost her camera. I hope it never happens to me". well she realized she left it... and if you know what its like to leave something in this sector of Quito, you know that it was gone forever. But I told her that it was going to be fine. we said a prayer and went back and it was... gone. but there was a youth sitting at a different computer and gave us the camera! Wut? there are still some honest people out thurr!!! :D
I love working in the mission field. There are so many miracles. Its hard sometimes because you feel like you give it your all for some people to salir adelante (to move forward) and then you just don't see a lot of progress sometimes. Although, I know that the progress that we don't immediately see are seeds being planted and someone else is going to harvest them :) The field is white and ready to be harvested! The Lord doesn't lie. If he says that there are people prepared, there are people prepared! :) I know that the church is true. People and the members are very imperfect, but the organization is God's :) I love life! :) It's such a joyful feeling when you meet people that need help and you have what will help them! :) The Gospel! :)
Love you guys! have a great week! And thank you for all your love and support!
